modcloth madness

There’s no web site that tempts me more than ModCloth when it comes to dresses. I never find just one that I like; I always have to find a few hundred dollars worth. Since I’m hell-bent on finding spring clothes & convinced I’ll live in dresses this year, checking out ModCloth’s site today was a really bad idea. I’m sitting here with $354.94 worth of dresses in my shopping cart & I’m dangerously close to clicking the checkout button…

 Fluid Dynamics Dress in Hydro

This one is a sure thing!

Budding Ambition Dress

Looove the color! I could see the ruffley thing up top looking super cute or super ridiculous though.

Neighborhood Bodega Dress

I’m a sucker for a good floral pattern on navy. Belt this & it could potentially be perfection.

Windy City Dress

No explanation needed.

Love is Blind Dress

I’m torn on this one. Maybe I’m just maxi dress desperate right now, but I do think it could be beautiful in person. I’d likely have my seamstress add straps to it though.

Fresh Flowers Dress

I could SO see me strolling through the French Quarter in this!

lookalike: anthropologie dagmar shirtdress

I spotted this dress in Urban Outfitters on Thursday & it instantly reminded me of the extremely popular Dagmar Shirtdress from Anthropologie. There are some clear differences, but the color & pattern are very similar. Another big difference: the price. Dagmar retailed for $148; UO’s version is $59.

reunited & it feels so good

Home at last! I was on a business trip in NYC that went a little longer than originally planned, on account of the 19 inches of snow that hit the city Wednesday night. After many cancellations & delays, I’m actually very happy to be back in the currently snow-free Indiana.

After finding out I had to stay a second unplanned night in NYC, I was determined to buy something new to wear. I had worn the same outfit two days in a row & I felt so dirty. I took a stroll down Lex & discovered an Urban Outfitters not far from my hotel. I don’t know why, but lately I haven’t been too interested in UO. They’ve been one of my favorite stores for a long time, but I haven’t shopped there in months (in store or online)!

I’m happy to report I am once again smitten with UO. I found tons of things I liked, but I didn’t have a whole lot of time for trying on. Here’s what I ended up with to wear today:

Silence & Noise Floral Zip-Back Tank

I put them with my J Brand 901s in Olympia & Jessica Simpson Grella boots in Mahogany. The handbag in the picture below is Matt & Nat Welles in Cognac.

lust list: free people january catalog

The January FP catalog has been out for two weeks, so I’m a little late on this post. Better late than never though, right? I’d like to think so.

wisteria_lattice

Wisteria & Lattice Dress

This was love at first sight. Unfortunately, I drug my feet & it sold out in my size. Here’s hoping for a restock or popback!

sweater_chiffon

Sweater & Chiffon Dress

I love it, but do I $168 love it?

georgette_shirttail

Georgette Shirttail Dress

I really hope it isn’t as short as it appears. I’m anxious to try it on when I visit the Nashville store in March.

engineered_crochet

Engineered Crochet Tunic

I’m about 98.7% sure that I will own this. The owner of a local boutique I frequent informed me that she is getting it in ivory & lavender. Yay!

lookalike: anthropologie anticipation heels

Miss Albright’s Anticipation Heels retailed for $168 & are sold out on Anthropologie’s web site. I stumbled across a doppelganger on Ruche for $39.99. They’re selling out quickly, but Ruche is usually pretty good about restocking items.

reviews: FP dotted mesh layering top, confettied collar tunic & always rosey lace bomber

For reference: I am 5’5”, 135 lbs, 36-30-39, size 6 or 8.

Dotted Mesh Layering Top

Military Mint, Size S

Wow, I’m in love with this color of green! It’s a great color for spring, but would also work well in the fall. The dotted pattern gives the top a little something extra without being overpowering.

FP’s sizing can be all over the place at times. I usually wear a S (sometimes XS) in their looser-fitting tops. Fitted tops like this one usually necessitate sizing up to a M. I took a S & a M to the fitting room with me. I found the S to fit snugly, but not as snugly as I expected. It fit me exactly like I would’ve expected the M to. I definitely wouldn’t size up; I like my layering pieces fitted. The sleeves are a bit long, but I didn’t mind that at all.

I probably wouldn’t ever wear this on its own or layer it over other pieces, only underneath. It looks f-ing awesome underneath other tops though, as you’ll soon see.

When I first picked it up I thought the mesh might be irritating on my skin. It’s a bit scratchy, but not uncomfortably so.

Verdict: $48 for layering is steep. I will likely buy this at sale time.

Confettied Collar Tunic (sold out online)

Tea Combo, Size S

The collar & pattern on this top instantly drew me in. The collar is a sweater knit in the same colors as the pattern (pink, green, orange). It’s 100% polyester, so it’s soft & silky to the touch.

The size S was a bit tight across my back. I tried to get a picture of it, but you couldn’t really tell. I love how it nips in the waist though. I’m not sure that I would size up to a M & risk losing that definition.

The bottom portion of the top was the perfect amount of flowy: it hides my pooch without making me look pregnant.

I love this over the Dotted Mesh Layering Top! The colors go perfectly together. A tank over a long sleeve top is something I never do, but after seeing how great this looks I might just have to start.

The tea color is lovely, but doesn’t look great with my pale skin tone. Because of that, I’m not sure I’d ever wear it on its own.

Verdict: It’s a pass for me.

Always Rosey Lace Bomber (sold out in ivory online)

Ivory, Size S

This bomber combines several characteristics that I adore: florals, lace, ivory & jacket. It was a no brainer that I would snatch this beauty to try on.

My size S fit TTS. At first I thought I might not be able to zip it comfortably, but it had just enough stretch to it that it zipped just fine. I could probably size up to a M for a looser fit, but I prefer my jackets more fitted.

I think this jacket looks great open or closed, which makes it so versatile. I envision myself wearing it open over a flowy tank more than wearing it closed, but I like having the option.

Maybe I’m just too in love to see any flaws with this jacket, but to me it’s perfection.

Verdict: It’s going home with me. Definitely worth the $128 price tag.

OOTD: love is pain

In this outfit:

AE Shawl Collar Waffle Cardigan

Ella Moss Garden of Eden Cami

J Brand 901 Leggings in Olympia

Dolce Vita Ella Boots in Grigio

Treesje Tristan Hobo

I have a knack for finding things I want to buy after they’ve sold out everywhere. I don’t know what it is with me. The thrill of the hunt, perhaps? Those Ella boots were sold out long before I realized I HAD to own them. Upon reading several reviews, I learned they ran small & I would probably need a 7.5, rather than my normal size 7. I searched the interwebs high & low for those boots. I’m talking page 30 of Google results searching.

FINALLY (probably 3 days later, but felt like 3 months), a pair popped up on eBay. Brand new in the box… BUT… an f-ing 6.5! I knew there was no way, so I didn’t even bother watching the auction… at first. Eventually, I added them to my watch list because maybe I could make the 6.5 work. Maybe because I’m delusional. Well, the seller marked them on sale from $250 to $50!!! How could I resist? I couldn’t.

Fossil Cut Stretch Ring in Blonde

These are the most gorgeous boots I own & I adore them, but by noon I was going into the bathroom at work & putting bandages on my heels. I’m keeping an eye out for a 7 or 7.5, but will probably continue to wear these until then. Worth it!

lust list: anthro for SPRING!

I’m so done with the snow! We’re supposed to get hit again tonight/tomorrow, so that’s all everyone is talking about today. I refuse to think about that white evilness & instead I’m focusing on warm weather clothes.

Here’s a small sampling of what Anthropologie’s tempting me with right now…

Soft-Structured Dress

This is at the top of my list. I love that I could wear it now with tights & boots & later without.

Voila Top

Between the color & the detailing, this top is perfection. I must have it.

Drifting Sprigs Tee

The pattern of this top drew me in immediately. Once I found out it was Ella Moss, I was sold. I love me some Ella.

Maryam Tank

How cute would it be to have the bottom of this peeking out from underneath another top? The answer is super cute. It would be super cute.

Crossroads Belt

My recent obsession with navy continues. My friend has last year’s version of this belt (Cylindrical Braid Belt) & loves it.

Since I live three hours from the nearest Anthropologie (damn you, Indiana), I won’t get to try these on till I travel down to Nashville in March. Hopefully I’ll bring some of these lovelies back home with me. :)

my name’s brandi & i’m a shopaholic

IMAG0481-b&w

The title of this post pretty much says it all. If I’m not shopping online, I’m probably not on the internet.

I live in southern Indiana, a place where I can’t really brag about the Treesje bag I scored for $120 because no one around here has ever heard of Treesje. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked “What is Anthropologie?”

So, here I am. I created this blog as a way to connect with the other shopaholics out there. I plan to post product reviews, outfits, great deals I stumble across, etc. I do think about other things besides shopping (occasionally), so I’m sure some of that randomness will creep in as well.

Enjoy! :)
